OPEN CALL EXPLORE DANCE POP UP PRODUCTION

explore dance – network dance for young audience
is looking for a new mobile Pop Up production for primary schools, to premiere in autumn/winter 2026/2027 in Hamburg

Application deadline: Sunday, April 26, 2026

Call for choreographers based in Hamburg, Dresden, Munich, Potsdam, Frankfurt am Main or Stralsund:

New Pop Up production in Hamburg:

Mobile Pop Up dance productions for young audiences are technically simple, suitable for touring and designed to be flexible. They can be staged in a variety of venues – for example, in classrooms, sports halls, community centres or public spaces. In this way, they enable children and young people, even those living outside major cities, to experience dance as an art form. Pop Ups last 30–40 minutes and are specifically tailored to young audiences and performances in a school setting. An important component is the interaction with the target audience: the artists work closely with young people right from the development stage of the production. That is why the call places particular emphasis on actively involving the target audience. Furthermore, an outreach format – such as a workshop, a post-performance discussion or another form of interaction – is planned from the outset. This takes place following the performances.

explore dance – network dance for young audience is a production and touring network by fabrik moves (Potsdam), Fokus Tanz München, HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts (Dresden), perform[d]ance (Stralsund), Künstler*innenhaus Mousonturm (Frankfurt am Main) and K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg. Over the past 8 years, 37 productions for young audiences have been created, with a total of over 650 performances.

INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAMME WITH NAVE

K3 | Tanzplan Hamburg and NAVE in Santiago de Chile are offering an international residency exchange from June to November 2026. K3 is looking for a choreographer from Hamburg to take part.

K3 is looking for a choreographer to take part in a three to four-week exchange at NAVE in Santiago de Chile in the timeframe of 05 October to 30 October 2026.

  • The choreographer should be based in Hamburg
  • The choreographer should have experience of leading several professional dance projects (as a choreographer)
  • The choreographer should work on their individual project during the exchange but should be willing to share their practice and outcomes with the other choreographers and the public
  • Please bear in mind the language barrier when planning encounters and sharing situations during the residency at NAVE, as English is not widely spoken

The exchange takes place with a choreographer from Chile and is framed through a series of online and face-to-face meetings between the two selected choreographers (from Hamburg and Chile). The goal is to accompany each other in the work processes and engage in a peer-to-peer exchange.

From June to November, the selected choreographers exchange and share their individual work online and on site. While a Chilean choreographer will work at K3 in the month of August 2026, NAVE will host a choreographer from Hamburg to be in Santiago de Chile in the month of October 2026. NAVE will provide a studio for up to four weeks and accommodation on site. Additionally, they will support the research of the choreographer and facilitate workshops or sharing sessions if the choreographer wishes to do so.

Timeline:

  1. June and July 2026: Online meetings (approx. 2-4) with institutions and between the two choreographers before the actual exchange on site, to introduce all participants, identify common interests, and determine schedules.
  2. August 2026: The choreographer from Chile is in Hamburg. The choreographer from Hamburg is preferably available during that time for meeting up.
  3. On site exchange timeframe of 05 October to 30 October 2026: The choreographer from Hamburg visits Santiago de Chile. NAVE will provide a studio for that time.
  4. November 2026: review meeting (online) with all participants to evaluate results.

Financial details

K3 will pay for a return flight from Hamburg to Santiago de Chile and will support the choreographer with a scholarship of 500 Euro per week of the stay in Santiago de Chile.

Application details:

Applications should be in English and contain: Project description including motivation for the exchange (max. 1 page), Portfolio/Description of your work, CV, up to 5 video links to previous works. The application should be combined in a single pdf (max. 5MB).

Applications initially go to K3 before the final decision will be taken jointly by K3 and NAVE.

Applications from people who experience discrimination, who identify themselves as Black German, Person of Colour, Sinti*zze and Rom*nja, Jewish, Muslim and/or refugees, as well as people with a family history of migration or flight, are explicitly welcomed to apply. We promote professional equality for people of all genders and the compatibility of family and work. Severely disabled persons and persons of equal status are given preferential consideration in cases of equal aptitude and ability. We have to point out that NAVE is not wheel chair accessible. For questions concerning accessibility of the premises of NAVE please contact us via florence.rist@kampnagel.de or 0402709494953.

Deadline for applications: 07 April 2026

The selection will be made by the artistic coordinators of NAVE and K3 by Mid-May 2026.
