Erna Ómarsdóttir | Halla Olafsdottir

The acclaimed Icelandic choreographers Erna Ómarsdóttir and Halla Olafsdottir are visiting Kampnagel with a brand-new version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. This piece has very little in common with amorous whisperings and tender declarations of love. Instead, the two choreographers use the musical template of Sergei Prokofiev’s famous ballet music for a completely new type of dance creation, in which the roles between female and male are in a constant transformation and in which drastic images tell stories of of blood, love, ballet exorcism, fire, dance and death.

In this masterclass the two choreographers together with the participants explore and develop the practices and ideas that were created in the making of the performance. This includes danceoke, ballet exorcism, screaming and some serious headbanging.

Romeo und Julia is nominated for the German Theatre award FAUST in the category “Choreography”.
