From 24 to 28 April 2018, the festival of Hamburg’s performing arts Hauptsache Frei lets you experience the combined energies of Hamburg’s independent scene for the fourth time: it takes artists and audience on a journey across the Hanseatic City, adopts mysterious places and proves that aesthetic and substantial alternatives are possible far from state theatres, creating and fuelling new artistic and social processes.
The festival begins on 24 April at K3 and Kampnagel with the revival of the K3 co-production Beach Birds – Das Dancical by Helen Schröder, as well as Juliana Oliveira’s piece Ruins. The second day brings us to the Monsun Theater, only to return to Kampnagel on 26 April, showing Jetzt bestimme ich!(Meine Damen und Herren) and Bellybutton (Philipp Joy Reinhardt) as well as hosting various workshops and work formats at the K3-Studios. The next stop is at the Sprechwerk, before the festival ends in a final fabulous night on 20 April at the Lichthof Theater.
