Tanztriennale Hamburg 2026
Moving Meetings #1
Moving Meetings #1 kicks off the Tanztriennale 2026 with Anam (Dancer & Choreographer), Francesco Cortese (Dancer & Project Coordinator Young Choreographers, Hamburg Ballet), Gwen Hsin-Yi Chang & Monica Gillette (Artistic Co-Directors, Tanztriennale 2026) and representatives of the Tanztriennale Hamburg e.V. board.
The new monthly series invites professional dance makers to meet, exchange ideas and look at different artistic practices with curiosity. Moving Meetings begins in June at Kampnagel and will continue on a monthly basis from September - from place to place, across Hamburg's institutions - until the inaugural edition of the Tanztriennale from June 14 to 21, 2026.
As co-initiator of the Tanztriennale, K3 - Zentrum für Choreographie | Tanzplan Hamburg is expanding the aesthetic boundaries of dance together with the Hamburg Ballet, the Hamburg Ballet School and Kampnagel - in dialog with hip-hop and black dance communities, museums, contemporary exhibition venues and academic institutions.

Tanztriennale Hamburg 2026
The first Tanztriennale will take place in Hamburg from 14 to 21 June 2026. This cultural initiative, launched by the German Federal Cultural Foundation, is being organised by three project partners: the Hamburg Ballet, Kampnagel and K3 - Center for Choreography | Tanzplan Hamburg. In July 2024, the Cultural Foundation's Board of Trustees selected Hamburg as the venue from numerous nationwide applications.
Dance curator Gwen Hsin-Yi Chang and dramaturge Monica Gillette were selected by an international selection committee as the artistic directors of the Tanztriennale.
Through the Tanztriennale, the sponsoring association — the German Federal Cultural Foundation — and the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media aim to organise a new international event bringing together dance from various scenes, including hip-hop, street dance, and other social dance styles, as well as contemporary and classical ballet. Particular focus will be given to creating a lively exchange between the genres, and to addressing and actively involving a diverse audience of all ages and backgrounds, with and without previous knowledge of dance.
