Ayelen Parolin: Zonder

In this mischievous creation by choreographer Ayelen Parolin, everything goes wrong, much to the delight of the audience: an obsessed trio tries to dance their way through Strauss’ popular hit “An der schönen blauen Donau” and repeatedly falls out of sync. But they can’t give up, the show must go on, no matter how much chaos breaks out on stage. ZONDER is the name of this latest dance prank by the Argentinian choreographer from Brussels, with which she has created a great ode to senselessness, the illogical and therefore also to art. The piece debunks the pseudointellectuality of contemporary dance as well as the idea that it is the audience’s own fault if they don’t understand anything. After her hit SIMPLE, in which she simplified Merce Cunningham’s classic “Summerspace” into Dadaist fun, Ayelen Parolin proves once again that humor is still the best way to explore the human condition – if executed as well as in ZONDER.
