Teresa Vittucci: Sane Satan

Teresa Vittucci is the new star in the sky of radical feminist performance art. After first transforming the Virgin Mary into an ambassador of queer feminism and then celebrating the biblical Eve as an icon of female curiosity, it’s now the devil’s turn: SANE SATAN is what Vittucci calls the third part of her trilogy IN PRAISE OF VULNERABILITY, which she is now premiering at Summer Festival. The renegade angel Satan, as a symbol of evil, is a perfect match for the Austrian performance maker based in Zurich. After all, who actually decides what is considered evil? What is Satan’s murder rate of ten compared to the 2.921.364 murders attributed to God in the Bible? Can the castout outsider Satan not be employed as an accomplice for all those who are devalued, oppressed and excluded because they are different? Together with fellow performer Alina Arshi, Vittucci explores drag, satanic sound and “bimbofication” (the appropriation of the hyperfeminine) as antitheses to patriarchal divinity – with a lot of pink to match Summer Festival!
