BAALYA
Baalya turns the Indian caste system on its head and imagines choreography from the feet up. In the Indian caste system, people are classified according to which body parts they use to earn a living. People of the lowest caste function as the feet of society. Drawing on Anand Dhanakoti's personal experiences on the streets of Bengaluru and on those of performers trained in circus arts, Baalya challenges gravity. Baalya asks how movement and dance are transformed by experiences on the streets.
