EXPERIENCING THE GROOVE
Every week, visitors flock to clubs featuring with electronic dance music in search of an intense collective rhythmic experience: the groove sensation. But what really is the groove? How do linked synchronisation processes – on the club dance floor, as well as in contemporary theatrical dance – guide dancers’ movements? In his dissertation Gefühlter Groove, which will be appearing this spring, Sebastian Matthias outlines a range of categories to record group dynamics, based on his own artistic research.
Together with DJ MAD, whose has so far spent his life searching for the perfect groove, he sets out on a theoretical and practical journey with everyone present to explore both the choreographic and musical groove.
