Based on the production While they are floating, Hooman Sharifi provides insights into the artistic working process of the dance company Carte Blanche: How best artistically approach a media-hype such as the refugee crisis? Is it at all possible to develop a piece about such a profound topic? What could one form of physical expression look like and how does one approximate the reality of another human being, so as to translate it for an audience?

Hooman Sharifi

is a choreographer and artistic director of the Carte Blanche Dance Company in Bergen (Norway). Sharifi is Norwegian with Iranian roots. His special interest lies in artistic forms of expression at the interface of dance, theatre and visual art. In 2000, he founded the Impure Company, which worked at the crossroads of social engagementand politics in the Arts. His artistic language is physically demanding and intense and explores the deeper motivations behind systems of power, politics and violence.
