GESTURE BODY DANCE
In this course we will look at physical gestures and movement qualities and how they mutually depend on each other. Gestures are part of human communication, which almost constantly accompany spoken words both consciously or unconsciously. What they have in common is that they clarify what is being said, convey what is not being said or make abstract things comprehensible.
How can we play with gestures by using different qualities of movement? How can we strengthen them, weaken them, change their meaning, transform them, invent new ones, string them together at random? What stories emerge, what dance language develops, and what does this set in motion in us and in the audience?

Sophia Guttenhöfer
works as a choreographer, performer and movement facilitator. Her way of working combines various movement and performance arts with somatic bodywork, influenced by queerfeminist conceptions of body and gender. Both dance, movement and spoken theatre, as well as Nouveau Cirque, Kung Fu and video art are or were part of her work.
