GAME FEVER IN CONTEMPORARY DANCE
This practical workshop demonstrates how parlour games, games of chance, as well as role-playing and competitive games can be utilized for dance. How do games inspire imaginative movement and how can the rules of games be translated into choreographic structures? We will invent interactive systems for dance, indulge in our natural love of play, use our reflexes and intuition and explore the relationship between intent and chance, order and chaos. We will dance pick-up-sticks, sudoku, chess, dominos and so much more. Exemplary video excerpts of dance pieces, which deal with concepts of play, will help link the practical experiences made in the workshop to an expanded understanding of dance on stage.
