Luísa Saraiva | Maria Zimpel | Raymond Liew Jin Pin
GET IT ON
They say: magic dwells in every beginning. For this reason, we will begin the new round of K3 residencies with an invitation to artists from Hamburg to come and meet the “newcomers” from Johor Bahru, Porto and Warsaw and to experience their research proposals and work approaches in shared workshops that allow space for exchange and the possible development of common perspectives. Much like at Treffen Total, it’s all about what all participants brings with them. We’ll begin with each of the three choreographers offering a short workshop related to their residency proposals, followed by an open process shaped by everyone collaboratively. Raymond Liew Jin Pin is dealing with the fusion of different traditional dances. Luísa Saraiva explores the relationship between movement and language as a simultaneous process of forming meaning. Maria Zimpel investigates dance as an instrument to create and transform places.

Luísa Saraiva
has an M.A. in psychology from the University of Porto and a B. A. dance from Folkwang University of Arts. Her work Hochwasser was selected for Danse Élargie Seoul Edition in 2016. In 2017 she was a scholar of the 1-year program for Artistic Individual Development from the MKW of NRW. As a part of her research she collaborated with Lea Letzel in the creation A Concert, with which they won the NRW Kultursekretariat prize Ground Support in 2018.
Her research for the residency focuses primarily on the relationship between movement and language as simultaneous meaning-making processes. There is an interest in reading and interpreting movement through the use of sung, spoken and written language and on the development of a speaking, thinking body. She will take as a departure point Henry Purcell’s work Hail! Bright Cecilia and use it as a physical score to explore a sonic approach to bodily presence.
Maria Zimpel
studied dance and choreography at HZT at University of Arts in Berlin. In her choreographic research she draws on quantum physics and broadly understood perception in movement. In her works she explores limits of physicality and focuses on creating her own dance language. Her choreography Noish~ has been awarded Aerowaves20 in 2016. She is an author of many solo and collaborative projects. Her works were shown in Austria, Poland, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Russia and other places.During the K3 residency Maria will continue to follow her interest regarding the relations between sensing, inteligent body, Spacetime and movement. It explores the idea of dance as an elementary force creating and transforming places. Places are not static. They appear and despair, open and close in accordance to the quality of actions they welcome. The notion of place as dance-based event is explored via movement research and a dialogue between music, light, space design and dance.
Raymond Liew Jin Pin
graduated at the Folkwang University (Essen) with BA/MA in dance and choreography, as well as a Diploma at ASWARA in Malaysia where he learned the multiple traditional dance forms such as Malay,Chinese and Indian dance. As a dancer he worked among others with mit Nature Theatre of Oklahoma, Theater Bremen, Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, Samir Akika, and Ben J. Riepe. His choreographies were shown at International Contemporary Dance Festival of Panama and d’Motion International Dance Festival in Malaysia.
By reflecting his dance background, Raymond researches what a fusion of dances can be. He questions the encounter of different dance techniques within his body and works, disintegrates these techniques and interweaves them to seek a common base. The aim is to figure out a method to fuse these influences with an equally analytical and intuitive approach.
