DON’T WALK – DANCE: MINDFULNESS AND CONTEMPORARY DANCE
Yoga has long been practiced in contemporary dance to complement dance training and as an additional source for creatively dealing with movement. Yoga not only teaches us to deal with the body gently and mindfully, but also helps to explore the potentials and limitations of one’s own body. The body with its wealth of information can be employed more creatively and consciously in everyday activities and in dealing with movement. Through mindful breathing, awareness and stretching exercises, based on yoga’s anatomical alignment principles, various areas of the body are addressed, allowing one’s own movements to gain clarity and presence.
