explore dance online discourse

structures that bring young co-creators into (cultural-)institutions

For six years explore dance – network dance for young audience has been producing dance performances for young audiences in collaboration with professional choreographers and dancers. These performances tour schools, theatres, museums, youth centres and other venues. Involving school classes in the creative process already brings a young perspective to the pieces – but there’s potential for more! In the three-part Zoom series Structures that bring young co-creators into the (cultural) institutions, the network invites participants to discuss the structural participation of children and young people. Experts from different fields will explore the necessary framework conditions to ensure that young people are not only addressed as an audience, but are actively involved in shaping culture.

Moderator: Carolin Gerlach

Participation is free of charge for artists, educators, teachers and event organisers from the field of dance for young audiences and the performing arts as a whole. The events are organised as a series, but can also be attended individually. In German language. Registration required.

DISCOURSE #1: VISION CO-DETERMINATION - CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE AS CREATORS
Thursday 06.03.2025 | 15:00 - 16:30 | via Zoom
Registration until 04.03.2025 at info@exploredance.de

Why should we no longer do without the participation of children and young people? Fabian Brenner, process facilitator, and Dominic Glöß, who grew up in Riesa, take a look back at the Riesa city council's child and youth participation concept and discuss the framework conditions for structural child and youth participation. Together with the participants of the Zoom series, they will discuss the structures to which child and youth participation in the performing arts can be transferred.

DISCOURSE #2: GESTALTUNGSRÄUME - self-administration by children and young people
Thursday 03.04.2025 | 15:00 - 16:30 | via Zoom
Registration until 01.04.2025 at: info@explore-dance.de

What spaces already exist and what spaces need to be created so that children and young people can participate and, ideally, organise themselves? In this session, we will take a look at practical examples and what we can learn from them. Representatives from the Wolfenbüttel Youth Parliament, the Youth Board of Trustees of the Kunsthalle Bremen and the Blick's Mal group of the Augenblick Mal Festival will report on the goals, motivations and challenges of their projects.

DISCOURSE #3: ACTION METHODS - Paths to self-empowerment
Thursday 15.05.2025 | 15:00 - 17:00 | via Zoom

Registration until 13.05.2025 at: info@explore-dance.de

Know-how is all well and good - but how do we get into action? In this third and final Zoom session, die Radikalen Töchter (Radical Daughters), who operate at the intersection of action, art and politics, will provide valuable impulses for self-activation on how projects and institutions can embark on the transformation of tackling the structural participation of children and young people.
