Jeremy Nedd / Impilo Mapantsula: Blue Nile to the Galaxy Around Olodumare

In 2022, Jeremy Nedd & Impilo Mapantusla stormed the Summer Festival with three sold-out, jubilant shows. Their new work BLUE NILE TO THE GALAXY AROUND OLODUMARE is the third collaboration between the South African group and the Basel-based US choreographer, who recently won the Swiss Grand Prix in Performing Arts. In response to the cosmic jazz music of Alice Contrane and Bheki Mseleku, they explore the afrofuturistic potential of improvisation through Pantsula, the high-speed, virtuosic dance form that, during apartheid, gave voice to an entire generation. From the powerful and lyrical jive style of today's Pantsula echo past struggles against oppression. And inspired by interstellar phenomena like the birth of galaxies or the death of a star, space and time condense on stage to create a highly dynamic and poetic evening.
