TILMAN O'DONNELL (USA)

MASTERCLASS
WHATEVERNESS: ANCIENT PRACTICE, CONTEMPORARY DISCOURSE, PRESENT PERFORMANCE

Based on the hypothesis that knowledge is a common agreement, which is replicable and transmittable, this master class concentrates on the method of “whatevering”: participants examine ways in which supposedly fixed assumptions can repeatedly be questioned and changed through repetition and transmission as physical practices. Out of the act of continual questioning within a matrix of failure and success, a new physical style can begin to emerge.

Tilman O’Donnell received his training at the National Ballet School in Toronto. As a dancer he worked e.g. with the Göteborg Ballet, the Staatstheater Saarbrücken, the Cullberg Ballet as well as with the Forsythe Company. He choreographs his own piece and teaches internationally since 2002.
