Based on Diego Velázquez’s epochal work (Las Meninas, 1656) via Jacques-Louis David (The Death of Marat, 1793) to Bill Viola’s current installations, Alice Gudera and Florian Britsch will speak about formal principles, narrative structures, as well inter-medial encounters between painting, theatre and film from the perspective of art history.

Alice Gudera

has a doctorate in art history and works independently for the Kunsthalle Bremen, as well as for the Friends of the Hamburger Kunsthalle. She has published work on medieval art and 19th to 21st century painting.

Florian Britsch

is an art historian, program director of the Friends of the Hamburger Kunsthalleand lecturer for art history at the Theatre Academy Hamburg/ University of Music and Theatre Hamburg.
